❤️ Why you'll love it

This is seriously the best pulled pork recipe! It's so easy to make and comes together very quickly in the instant pot. Plus, this recipe is full of flavor and can be served with just about any side dish you like.

You can cook this pork in an instant pot pressure cooker or a slow cooker. If you don't have an instant pot, any electric pressure cooker will do.

🧾 Ingredients Used

ingredients to make pulled pork
  • Pork tenderloin: You can get a high-quality cut at the grocery store or butcher.
  • Olive oil: You could also use avocado oil if you prefer.
  • Homemade pork seasoning: This pork seasoning works perfectly. I make it with easy pantry ingredients like garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. You can also use your favorite spices.
  • Beef broth: You can use beef stock, chicken broth, or vegetable broth.
  • Sugar-free BBQ sauce: Use your favorite brand and flavor. Or try this homemade barbecue sauce.

  1. Cut the pork tenderloin into large chunks.
  2. Mix olive oil and pork seasoning in a small bowl, then rub all over the pork loin.
  3. Turn your instant pot to the saute setting and add olive oil.
  4. Brown the pork loin for 5 minutes, stirring every few minutes.
  5. Remove the pork from the instant pot and pour in the broth.
  6. Using a wooden spoon to deglaze the pot.
  7. Add the pork back to the bottom of the pot and set the instant pot on high pressure for 45mins.
  8. Let the pressure cooker do a natural release for 20 minutes, then quick release the remaining pressure.
  9. Remove the pork, place it on a plate and shred it with two forks.
  10. Stir in the sugar-free BBQ and serve.

💭 Tips and Variations

  • If you're looking for a leaner cut of pork, try using a boneless pork shoulder or butt roast.
  • For extra flavor, you can add some brown sugar or chili powder to the dry rub.
  • If you want to make pulled pork sandwiches, shred the cooked pork and serve it on low-carb hamburger buns or romaine leaves with your favorite toppings.
  • For more of a smoky flavor, you can add some liquid smoke to the cooking liquid before pressure cooking.
  • Try using a stand mixer to shred your pork easily.

👩‍🍳 Frequently asked questions

Why is my pulled pork tough in the Instant Pot?

When cooking pork in an Instant Pot, it's important not to let all the pressure out immediately. If you do, the meat might come out tough. Instead, you should let the pressure release slowly, which will help keep the pork tender.

Is it better to make pulled pork in the crock pot or Instant Pot?

Cooking meat slowly helps it stay tender and juicy. On the other hand, cooking meat quickly in a pressure cooker might make it a little less tender, but it's still a great option.

How much liquid do I put in my Instant Pot for pulled pork?

Make sure to add at least one cup of water or broth to the Instant Pot. You can also put a metal trivet in the pot and place the pork on top of it, or you can just put the pork directly in the liquid. Either way, the pork will be flavorful and delicious.
