Creole Seasoning-pinterest

Make your own creole seasoning at home with just a few simple pantry spices like pepper, onion, dried thyme, cayenne pepper, garlic, and other simple spices. The homemade seasoning mix can be used to give your dishes some extra flavor or used as a dry rub for meats.

authentic creole seasoning

Creole seasoning is great for dishes that you want to add some extra bold flavor to. It's also one of the most popular spices used in Jamaican and New Orleans dishes.

While you can buy Creole seasoning at the store, it's always better to make your own homemade version at home.

Not only can you control the ingredients that go into the seasoning but in the long run it'll be cheaper, especially if you use it frequently like we do.

❤️ Why you'll love it

  • Since it's a homemade Creole seasoning, you can easily control what goes into it and how much goes into it. For instance, if you need to watch your salt intake, you can easily adjust the recipe to control how much salt is used.
  • Creole seasoning is versatile. You can add it to seafood recipes, to make dry rubs, chicken recipes, pork, and beef to give the dish a bit more flavor.
  • It's not as spicy as Cajun seasoning but still offers a bit of heat to your dishes.
  • It's cheaper than store bought. Since most of these ingredients are most likely in your pantry already, you can save a trip to the store.
  • The ingredients are easily adjustable. You can double or triple the recipe if you need more or cut down on the measurements to make less.
  • Homemade seasonings make a great gift! Homemade seasonings can be a great addition to a gift basket for friends and family who love to cook.

🍽️ What can I eat this recipe with?

The best thing about this Creole spice rub or seasoning is that it can be used for all kinds of dishes. Some of my favorites include meats like shredded beef, air fryer salmon, vegetables, and salads to give them more flavor. You can also try it with shrimp boil, low-carb gumbo, jambalaya, and more.

It also makes a great addition to classic Creole dishes like crawfish étouffée or blackened fish. You can even use it as a substitute for Cajun seasoning blends in recipes if you don't have Cajun spice on hand.

Since it's such a versatile spice and can easily be customized you can experiment with different herbs and spices until you find the perfect match for your favorite foods.
