Equipment Used
You need just an air fryer and a pair of tongs for this recipe. An air fryer is a great way to prepare bacon or any dish in less time. The cooking or frying is contained in the unit, giving you a quicker and cleaner experience as there is less grease.
With an air fryer, you don't need to hang around to monitor the bacon as it fries. Instead, all you need to do is put your ingredients in, set it, press start and go about your other business. Isn't that just great?
You can use any traditional air fryer or a ninja foodi grill, which is basically an air fryer on steroids! I use this to make my ninja foodi bacon.
Ingredients Used
Turkey bacon: I use one pack of turkey bacon which contains 12 turkey pieces. You can get turkey bacon from the section where regular bacon is sold in your local grocery store.
I prefer to use uncured turkey bacon. Cured turkey bacon simply means bacon that has been treated with sodium nitrates. Uncured bacon is still in its natural state and has no additives added.
You can use any brand of turkey bacon for this recipe. I like to use my local grocery store brand (HEB) which contains zero carbs and fewer calories. Other favorites are Applegate turkey bacon or Butterball turkey bacon.
You will also need some olive oil spray to grease the air fryer.

Storing your leftover crispy bacon is so easy. Just pop it in an airtight container and in the refrigerator for up to five days. Then, to reheat, you can microwave it at 20-second intervals on paper towels till it is warm.
To freeze, place the turkey pieces on wax paper and let them freeze for about two hours. Then remove each and put them in an airtight container and back in the freezer. Freezing them individually first will prevent them from sticking together.

Tips on making this recipe
Here are some great tips when making this flavorful side dish.
- It's best not to overlap the turkey bacon in the air fryer. There should be a little space between each piece so they would air fry evenly.
- If you want them to turn out deliciously crispy, go for the thinner strips. Alternatively, you might have to cook them a little longer if you get fatter bacon slices.
- You can place aluminum foil at the bottom of the air fryer basket to catch excess oil or fat drippings for easy cleanup.
Frequently asked questions
I personally prefer air frying bacon instead of frying it on the stovetop. It's less messy and doesn't spit hot grease at you. Make sure that your air fryer is clean and the temperature is 360F. That's it!
Turkey bacon does get crispy. While frying on a stovetop, turkey bacon gets crispy when fried in a few spoons of oil. With an air fryer, no oil is needed. Turkey bacon will get crispy the longer you air-fry it, but be careful, so it doesn't burn.
Turkey bacon is simply dark turkey meat that has been arranged and seasoned like regular bacon. It does not contain as much fat as regular bacon made from pig, but it's classified as healthier than bacon. It is a cured product that follows the same rules as traditional pork bacon.
