Summer is quickly approaching, which means that backyard barbecues will shortly be in full swing! More summer cookouts mean more hamburgers, pork chops, and hot dogs – but if you're on a low carb diet, what about the bun?

Luckily, these keto hot dog buns, with fewer net carbs than normal hot dog buns, are here to make this upcoming cookout season a lot more fun.

    ❤️ Why you'll love it

These keto hot dog buns are a game-changer for anyone craving the classic hot dog experience while staying true to their keto goals - and it's one of my favorite keto recipes.

Made with almond flour, cheese, and eggs, these buns boast a fluffy texture and rich flavor that perfectly complements your favorite hot dog toppings. Plus, they're incredibly easy to make using simple pantry ingredients (no xanthan gum needed!) and can be customized to suit your taste preferences.

    • Almond Flour: Provides a low-carb and gluten-free alternative to traditional wheat flour, creating a tender and flavorful base for the buns.
    • Baking Powder: Acts as a leavening agent, helping the buns rise and achieve a light and airy texture.
    • Cheese: A combination of shredded mozzarella and cream cheese adds richness and moisture to the dough, resulting in soft and fluffy buns.
    • Eggs: Serve as a binding agent and contribute to the structure of the buns, helping them hold their shape during baking.

    🥫 Storing and Reheating

Store any leftover keto hot dog buns in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. To reheat, simply warm them in the oven or toaster oven for a few minutes until heated through.

You can also store these hot dog buns in the freezer for up to a few months and thaw them whenever you need them - this is a great way to have keto hot dog buns on hand all summer.

    💭 Tips and Variations

    • Experiment with different cheeses for a variety of flavors. Try adding grated cheddar or pepper jack for an extra kick.
    • For added flavor, sprinkle the tops of the buns with sesame seeds, poppy seeds, or everything bagel seasoning before baking.
    • If you prefer a softer crust, cover the buns with aluminum foil during the last few minutes of baking to prevent them from becoming too crispy.
    • Brush the dough with olive oil before baking to make these buns slightly crispier.
    • Top with garlic salt, then brush with garlic butter before serving to enjoy a garlicky bun. If you omit the hot dog, this is a delicious version of keto garlic bread!
    • Shape these buns into a rounder shape to enjoy keto burger buns.
