If you need a wonderful side dish for your roast dinner, you’ve got to try this easy air fryer bacon-wrapped asparagus.

We all know everything is better with bacon. What else can transform a somewhat boring vegetable like asparagus into an appetizing dish?

This amazing side dish is also low carb and gluten-free. Adding bacon to a veggie is an excellent way to increase fat intake on the keto diet.

Why Make This Recipe In An Air Fryer?

Air fryers have an advantage over many other cooking methods in that the medium the food is cooked in is rapidly circulating. This means that the vegetable will turn out really nice and crispy.

An oven will work too (and I give instructions on this below), but an air fryer is quicker because there is less preheating time.

Some of my favorite air fryers are the ninja air fryer and the cuisinart air fryer. I have recently fallen in love with my ninja foodi, which is an air fryer and indoor grill in one!

Ingredients Used

bacon, olive oil, asparagus, spices
  • Asparagus: Go for the freshest asparagus you can find. It should be green from base to tip.
  • Bacon: Use your favorite brand but go for thinner cuts, not thicker cuts, so the bacon wraps around the asparagus more easily.
  • Spices: smoked paprika, black pepper, salt.
  • Olive oil spray: I prefer the olive oil spray for convenience, but you can substitute it with one teaspoon of olive oil.

How To Make Air Fryer Bacon Wrapped Asparagus

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 400ËšF.
  2. Chop off the woody ends of the asparagus, and then wash and pat dry.
  3. Mix the salt, black pepper, and paprika together in a small bowl.
  4. Spray the asparagus with olive oil, and then sprinkle the spices over the top. Make sure to rub the spices over the asparagus spears so that they’re well coated.
  5. Wrap a piece of bacon around two individual pieces of asparagus and place them in the air fryer basket.
  6. Cook for 15 minutes on each side. Use a pair of tongs to flip the asparagus gently.

Make it in the oven or grill

You can make this bacon wrapped asparagus in the oven or on the grill if you do not have an air fryer.

To make it in the oven, preheat the oven to 400F, then place the asparagus wrapped in bacon on a baking tray. Roast for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway or until it is crispy.

To make it on the grill, preheat your grill to high (400F). Grill for 5 minutes on each side.

Storing and Reheating

This recipe is best served fresh as it can get soggy pretty quickly. I won’t advise storing it for more than a day or two if you can’t help it. Reheat in the air fryer or oven for a few minutes.

You can also make it ahead by wrapping the asparagus with the bacon and refrigerating for a day or two before you’re ready to air fry it.

What can I eat this recipe with?

This air fryer roasted veggie goes great with meat, chicken or fish recipes.

Helpful Tips

  • If you’re having trouble keeping your rolls rolled up, try skewering them with a toothpick such that you get through the bacon and both pieces of asparagus all at once.
  • This dish would work really well with a spicy sauce on the side – consider whipping up a chili sauce or spicy mayo!
  • You can make this side dish on the grill! Preheat the grill to high (which should be 400ËšF), and cook for five minutes on each side.
