❤️ Why you'll love it

These air fryer frozen brussels sprouts are a delicious side dish for potlucks, dinners, and even busy weeknights. With this simple recipe, these air fryer brussels sprouts come out delicious and flavorful every time. This healthy side dish only takes about 15 minutes to get sprouts that are crispy on the outside yet juicy and tender on the inside.

Plus, this air fryer brussel sprouts recipe is also wonderfully low carb, gluten-free, dairy-free, and hassle-free. You must need a few simple ingredients: just some frozen sprouts, some oil, and spices. That's it!

Using an air fryer is the best way to make crunchy brussel sprouts. I use my air fryer several times every day to cook quick, delicious, and nutritious meals for my family. My ninja foodi air fryer is a versatile kitchen appliance that makes my life so much easier!

🧾 Ingredients Used

frozen sprouts, olive oil, spices on a marble background.
  • Brussel sprouts: Get frozen brussel sprouts from the frozen section of your local grocery store. No need to chop or halve them, you can cook them whole.
  • Olive oil: I prefer to use a little olive oil, but you can use avocado oil, melted coconut oil, or sesame oil. A little oil will help crisp up the outer leaves of the brussel sprouts and prevent them from burning.
  • Spices: Season with a mixture of garlic powder, black pepper, and sea salt or use your favorite seasoning blend.

🔪 How To Make This Recipe

  1. First, preheat the air fryer at 400F for three minutes. To preheat an air fryer that doesn't have a 'Preheat' button, switch it on and set it to 400F. Let it remain heated for three minutes.
  2. Arrange the frozen brussel sprouts in the air fryer basket on a single layer.
  3. Air fry at 390F for five minutes or till the brussel sprouts are defrosted.
  4. In a mixing bowl, mix the oil and spices together.
  5. Use a brush to rub them on the brussel sprouts. Shake to make sure they are evenly coated.
  6. Air fry for 10 more minutes.

🥫 Storing and Reheating

Store leftovers in the fridge for up to four days. Put them in an airtight container before refrigerating. I would not recommend freezing them since they might lose their flavor and texture once defrosted.

To reheat the leftover brussels sprouts, air fry at 390F until they're heated through. You can also heat in the microwave but it won't be as crunchy.

💭 Tips and Variations

  • You can also use fresh brussel sprouts for this recipe, but skip the defrosting part.
  • To get rid of the bitter taste of brussel sprouts, you need to cook them long enough. To be sure they are no longer bitter and have caramelized, they should have slightly charred leaves, crispy edges, and be slightly golden brown in color.
  • For best results, make sure to arrange the brussel sprouts in a single layer so that the hot air can circulate and crisp up the outsides. If you have more brussel sprouts than can fit, do them in batches.
  • My favorite way to coat the brussel sprouts with spices is to put them in a large bowl or a ziplock bag. Then pour in the spices and extra virgin olive oil and give the ziplock bag a few good shakes.
  • Add some parmesan cheese and melted butter to the tasty little vegetables for drooling deliciousness.
  • Toss in your favorite seasonings, like garlic powder, Italian seasoning, onion powder, bagel seasoning, or cumin for extra flavor.
  • If you like spicy food, add some cayenne pepper and red pepper flakes to it.
  • Throw these crispy sprouts in some buffalo sauce, BBQ sauce, or any sauce of your choice. You can also serve with blue cheese dressing for an exciting taste.
  • Drizzle some balsamic vinegar or lime juice to give these crispy brussels sprouts a tangy flavor.

🍽️ What can I eat this recipe with?

Brussel sprouts are versatile. You can eat them in many different ways and pair them with main dishes according to your preference. You can serve them with bacon, add them to a salad, or toss them into stir-fry for a quick, delicious side dish or meal!

I prefer to pair the easy recipe with meat or chicken dishes because I think they go better with them.

Enjoy them with the following dishes:

Peri Peri Chicken Wings

Air Fryer Lamb Chops

Grilled T-Bone Steak

Air Fryer Pork Belly

Air Fryer Turkey Wings

👩‍🍳 Frequently asked questions

Can you thaw frozen brussel sprouts before cooking?

There is no need to thaw frozen Brussel sprouts before cooking. You can if you choose, but you don't have to because the air fryer cooks frozen food to perfection. This recipe shows that the air would even cook some frozen vegetables to crispiness.

Are frozen brussel sprouts as good as fresh?

Yes, frozen brussel sprouts are every bit as good as fresh brussels sprouts. This is because they are frozen to preserve them, so their nutrients are locked in and preserved, too. When seasoned and cooked long enough, they taste really good. The texture of frozen ones might be a bit softer, but they're equally delicious!

Do you have to add oil to brussel sprouts in the air fryer?

Although air fryers require less oil than traditional fryers, you definitely still want to add oil to some recipes, like these air fryer sprouts. This will help crisp up the outer leaves to get the perfect texture. Otherwise, those leaves will become dry and crunchy.
