Air Fryer Stuffed Mushrooms with cheese in a plate

    ❤️ Why you'll love it

I'm a fan of anything stuffed with a mixture of cheeses, seasonings, and bacon and I'm willing to bet you are, too! This stuffed mushroom recipe is super delicious and indulgent, but because it's high in fat and low in carbs, it's great on a keto diet.

It's also incredibly easy. Just mix up the stuffing, insert it into the mushrooms, and stick it in your air fryer, no need to turn on the oven or stove! If you're looking for a late-night snack, potluck appetizer, or something for your next fancy dinner at home, this air fryer stuffed mushroom recipe does not disappoint.

Button Mushrooms, Cream Cheese, Cooked Bacon, Salt
    • Button mushrooms: Also known as white mushrooms, button mushrooms will give you the best results for this recipe.
    • Cheese: You'll need a mixture of cream cheese, grated cheddar cheese, and parmesan cheese – all of these will add a lot of flavor to the mushrooms.
    • Spices: I use salt, black pepper, Italian seasoning, and smoked paprika, which I add to the cheese mixture.
    • Cooked bacon: This adds a bit of protein and extra fat, plus tons more flavor. Mushrooms and bacon are a winning combo!
    • Onion: Diced onion adds a savory note to this recipe.
    • Fresh parsley: You can also use dried parsley for this recipe, but I like fresh parsley best!

🔪 How To Make Air Fryer Stuffed Mushrooms

steps on how to make Air Fryer Stuffed Mushrooms 1
    1. Preheat the air fryer to 360F.
    2. Using a damp cloth, wipe down each of the mushrooms. Remove the stem from the mushrooms, then scoop out the centers. You can do this using a small teaspoon.
    3. Beat the cream cheese in a medium bowl for 1 or 2 minutes using a hand mixer.
    4. Next, add the grated cheddar cheese, crumbled bacon, chopped parsley, diced spring onion, salt, black pepper, Italian seasoning, smoked paprika, and parmesan cheese. Mix everything together, then stuff the mushrooms with the cheese mixture.
    5. Place the stuffed mushrooms in the air fryer basket. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you might need to bake the mushrooms in a few batches.
    6. Cook at 360F for 5 minutes. Open the air fryer, top each of the mushrooms with the remaining parmesan cheese, and bake for another 3 to 5 minutes.
    7. Remove the mushrooms from the air fryer, cool for a minute or two, and enjoy!

    🥫 Storing and Reheating

Refrigerate these stuffed mushrooms in an airtight container for up to five days, but they taste better when fresh!

You can make this recipe up to one day in advance – just reheat them in the air fryer the next day before you want to serve them. You can also reheat these mushrooms for 30 seconds in the microwave, in the oven at 350, or in the air fryer again.

    💭 Tips and Variations

    • Don't wash mushrooms under water: Mushrooms are extremely absorbent, meaning they will absorb extra moisture and get soggy if you submerge them in water. All you need to do is wipe them down with a damp cloth or paper towel before cooking.
    • Carefully inspect the mushrooms before buying: You want to use mushrooms that are in good condition – they will be brown without many scratches or dark spots.
    • Make them spicy: To give these mushrooms a kick, add jalapenos, habaneros, or cayenne pepper to the filling!
    • Add more herbs: For a different flavor, you can chop up some mint, thyme, or basil in addition to the parsley.
    • Use sausage: You can use ground sausage instead of bacon, making these stuffed mushrooms a bit harder.
    • Add more veggies: Some other vegetables that go great in this recipe include green peppers, sun-dried tomatoes, or chopped spinach.
    • Use different cheeses: If you have other cheeses on hand, feel free to use them instead—mozzarella, ricotta, Monterey, and feta are all great options.

🍽️ What can I eat this recipe with?

The air fryer stuffed mushrooms are great on their own as an appetizer or snack! They also work as a side dish for your favorite meals. Pair them with a protein for a more balanced meal – I like them on the side of air fryer steak bites, keto grilled chicken, or my blackened shrimp.

My family and I love to have snack nights, where we have a bunch of appetizers for dinner and watch a movie! Some great picks for snack night include these stuffed mushrooms, air-fried buffalo wings, BBQ shrimp skewers, and keto deviled eggs. The whole family will love them!

    👩‍🍳 Frequently asked questions

How to make stuffed mushrooms not watery?

Rinse the mushrooms before cooking, but don't soak them – mushrooms are very absorbent! Pat the mushrooms dry with a paper towel before cooking to make sure they don't turn out watery after cooking.

Can you eat raw stuffed mushrooms?

While you can eat raw stuffed mushrooms, that doesn't mean you should. This recipe tastes much better after using an air fryer!

How long does it take to heat up stuffed mushrooms in an air fryer?

Stuffed mushrooms in the air fryer typically take about 15 minutes or less to cook – this recipe calls for a cooking time of about 10 minutes.

Are mushrooms allowed on a keto diet?

Because these air fryer stuffed mushrooms are naturally low in carbohydrates, they are keto-friendly and safe to eat if you follow a keto diet. Not to mention, mushrooms have plenty of nutrients; they are packed with vitamin D, selenium, and vitamin B6!
